On Brazil
Brazilians are the life of the party, and there is no better party than Carnival on their own turf in Rio. Joy reveled in the boundless festivity. Her two action-packed weeks in Rio in February 2010 were the doing of one generous soul, Mariana. Mari and Joy jumped off cliffs, danced samba rock, ate to their hearts' content, slept in eye masks, and relaxed to the sound of ocean waves at Ipanema Beach. Joy enjoyed exploring the city on her own as well. Joy hopped on a motorbike to get to the top of Rocinha and walk around the favela on foot. Later the same day, Joy met Jorge Selarón himself at Escadaria Selarón. Joy was also grateful to connect with fellow CA-based traveler, Andy, over coconut juice under the bright sun at Copacabana Beach.
Before moving on to São Paulo, Joy stopped to meet up with Intel buddy and native Brazilian, Cintia, and family. Joy enjoyed many meals with the family and loved the beach and bikini shopping in Guarujá with Cintia and Maria.
In São Paulo, Joy stayed with Marcia's lovely mom and connected with more of Marcia's friends there in her hometown. Joy and Juraci hit it off over coffee and then dinner and then a rocking night of more samba rock. Joy met Regina and friends for drinks one fun night out on the town. Regina later took Joy to enjoy an incredible spread at a US-style brunch place. The perfect ending to her South American adventure would come in São Sebastião, where Joy and Rodrigo climbed the rocks barefoot and took in the beautiful views of the Paulista coast.
