On Peru

Peru was the second country Joy visited during her first adventure to South America. Joy landed first in Cusco where she met Swedish sisters, Linda and Sophie. It didn't take much for Linda and Sophie to convince Joy to join them on a 4-day adventure hike to the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu. A big fan of nature, but not an avid hiker, Joy deems the experience a major accomplishment.

The girls would meet Alex and Guillermo during an afternoon downpour, and find shelter at a fruit smoothie bar inside a bustling market. Alex and Guillermo showed the girls the best places to buy souvenirs in town and they had a blast eating hearty food and listening to live music at a local restaurant of their choosing that night.

Joy then moved on to Peru's bustling coastal capital of Lima. There she would meet Sofia at her family's beach house for a lively lunch with family and friends. Sofia let Joy in on all the secrets of the city and told her all the best places to go. Sofia took Joy to a shop that served the best fruit salad she has ever tried. Joy and Sofia have so much in common and loved swapping stories about their personal experiences. Joy couldn't get enough of Sofia and never wanted to leave the car at the end of the night when it was time to go!

Joy also became friends with Señora Lucy who introduced Joy to a good and inexpensive lunch spot that became an instant favorite. Joy and Señora Lucy would also have a ball at the Parque de la Reserva one afternoon.

Finally, Joy reunited with Alex in Lima, which happened to be his hometown. The two had a great time talking over dinner. Later that evening when Joy was shopping for chocolates at a local supermarket, unbeknownst to her, Alex was picking out a bottle of wine to give to her as a goodbye present. The gift was the perfect embodiment of the kind and generous nature of the people Joy had come to love in Peru.
